Attorney a la Carte … What is limited scope representation?
Having an attorney represent you from start to finish in a matter can be costly. There are ways to abate this. One way is through limited scope representation.
What is limited scope representation?
Limited scope representation refers to a type of legal representation in which the attorney and client agree to share responsibilities during the course of a legal action. The attorney performs only certain aspects of the representation, while the client takes care of others. This is also referred to as “unbundled legal services.”
Why should I unbundle legal services?
By limiting the scope of the attorney’s representation, or unbundling legal services, the client retains more control over his or her case. In this situation, the client is in a direct position to make decisions over the strategy and process.
Unbundling legal services can also avoid the usual cost of hiring an attorney. When an attorney is not employed for the entire legal action, there are less hourly fees charged. Further, many services can be offered on a flat rate basis.
What types of legal services can be unbundled?
We offer a variety of legal services in a limited scope representation. These include:
- Negotiating agreements
- Drafting contracts and agreements
- Document review
- Drafting pleadings
- Conducting legal research
- Providing guidance on strategy and procedures
- Trial preparation
When it comes to hiring an attorney, one size does not fit all. Nor does it have to. Why pay for what you don’t need? Talk to us today about our unbundled legal services.
